Laynes Wood Solar Farm. More than just panels.

If approved, Laynes Wood Solar Farm will support our fight against climate change and help ensure the UK’s energy security by generating enough clean, renewable energy to meet the needs of around 21,700 homes.

Our plans will benefit both the environment, and the local community by:

  • Generating enough clean green electricity for over 21,700 homes every year, helping to reduce our reliance on energy imported from abroad.
  • Displacing over 1.2 million tonnes of carbon over its lifetime, the equivalent of planting 19.8 million trees.
  • Improving opportunities for local wildlife and achieving a biodiversity net gain of over 89% – almost 9x the standard.
  • Planting/enhancing over 2.4km of hedgerow and trees, as well as creating over 80 acres of new wildflower/wetland meadow.
  • Installing 40 new beehives, bird/bat boxes, log piles, reptile hibernacula, and insect hotels around the site.
  • Not using any ‘good’ quality farmland, and allowing the existing pastoral sheep farm to continue to operate.
  • Generating over £5m in business rates for the Council, to spend on direct and indirect public services

Laynes Wood Solar Farm, if approved, would help to secure the UK’s energy supply, whilst addressing the climate emergency locally, all without impacting local food production.
